HAZEL PARK, Mich. — Federal immigration authorities arrested a Venezuelan national Monday after a vehicle pursuit and brief foot chase in Hazel Park, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
ICE said agents were conducting a targeted enforcement operation on Feb. 2 when they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Edwin Romero Guttierez, whom officials identified as being in the United States without legal status. According to an ICE spokesperson, the driver did not stop and instead accelerated away from officers.
Authorities said the vehicle was later driven to a warehouse area, where the driver exited and attempted to evade agents on foot. ICE said agents took Guttierez into custody inside the warehouse without reported injuries to officers or bystanders.
ICE released an image from the scene that appeared to show the vehicle involved after it struck several rolling carts near the entrance to the warehouse. The agency did not report damage beyond the immediate area or provide additional details about the pursuit.

Federal officials said Guttierez was previously encountered by U.S. Border Patrol in 2023 after crossing into the United States illegally through the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. ICE did not indicate whether he was issued a removal order at that time.
Guttierez remains in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings. Authorities said no additional criminal charges related to the attempted flight had been announced as of Monday.
ICE said the arrest was part of ongoing interior enforcement operations targeting individuals unlawfully present in the country.
